Torben is arrested – First document received in jail

On June 30, 2022, Torben was asked to attend an interview with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to “discuss his immigration status” in Orlando.

During this interview, he was handcuffed and detained.

The ICE officer in charge told Torben they had received a tip he was involved in “smuggling weapons from Mexico.”

July 2022 – First document received in jail

When Torben was arrested on June 30, 2022, he was initially told by ICE that they had received a tip accusing him of “smuggling weapons from Mexico.” This made no sense to him.

About three weeks later, while in detention, Torben received the first official document (dated July 21, 2022).

This document also raised serious questions.

It claimed that Torben:

  • Had a chronic care condition (obesity)

  • Had been medically examined and diagnosed

  • Should remain in custody based on this assessment

  • Had overstayed his visa

None of this matched reality.

Torben knew:

  • He had not been examined by any medical professional

  • He was not obese

  • He had not overstayed, as he had already entered a legal process with his I-797 receipt notice

From the very beginning, the information presented in the official documents did not align with the facts.

This lack of clarity and consistency would continue throughout the entire case.
